It brings back the very successful SG bass from the 60s. This bass can play in a variety of different styles; rock, metal, blues etc. However, if you intend to play slap or funk, this might not be the bass for you.
Since this Gibson has such a great sound, you really need a decent amp to balance it out. This doesnt have the weak, average, nasal sounds that you get from the cheap Epiphones. This is the real thing. A nice fat, warm and round sound. You wont understand this if you have never played it, but I think £899 is a small price to pay for this beauty.
- Mahogany body in SG design
- Slim mahogany neck with rounded profile
- Rosewood fretboard with pearloid dots
- 30-1/2" scale length
- 20 frets
- Corian nut
- Chrome hardware
- Shamrock tuners
- Pickups: vintage-style TB Plus Bass Humbucker (neck); Bass Mini-humbucker (bridge)
- Controls: 2 volume, 1 tone
I think when you buy this new, it also comes with a free Gibson hardcase which is worth a decent amount of money on its own.
This bass is quite an eye catcher. I'd never heard or seen of this bass before i got mine. And i still havnt got tired of its unique design, like I do with most basses (especially BC Riches for some reason ). The action for me is perfect. I did have to do some slight adjustments when I got it but I got mine second hand so I dont think it was the companys fault.
If you have ever seen this bass, you will know how small it is. It has the same 30-1/2 short-scale and the same slim, fast neck as the original EB-3. This might not appeal to certain bassists: bad bassists (nah, just jokin)
I havnt had any problems with the Gibson SG Reissue Bass and i would reccommend it to anyone. Couldnt think of anything I didnt like about this bass so i gave it 5 stars for everything.
